戎康友（えびす・やすとも）
写真家。長崎県生まれ。写真館を営んでいた祖父と父の影響で写真を撮り始める。日本大学芸術学部写真学科卒業後、写真家として独立。ファッション誌のエディトリアルや広告ヴィジュアルの撮影、海外を旅しながら撮影したポートレート作品などを制作。加茂克也作品集『KAMO HEAD』（KAMO HEAD）など多くのアーティストの作品集を手掛ける。著書に、編集者ロイド・カーン収集の動物の骨を撮影した『BONES』、文筆家・鈴木るみことの共著で、イギリスの庭を収めた『みどりの王国』（青幻舎）がある。

As he stood on the beach, waiting to photograph the evening light, a young boy approached him and asked, “Could you spare me a cigarette?”
The boy told him that it was the first time in his life he had ever seen the ocean.
This volume brings together a series of fragments from California, photographed over the course of thirty years by photographer Yasutomo Ebisu, each shaped by a distinctly different approach. One image captures the boy encountering the sea for the first time—reading Ralph Waldo Emerson as he sat before the vast horizon. Other photographs trace Ebisu’s journeys to places associated with pioneers of alternative lifestyles such as Lloyd Kahn, Ricky Swallow, and Richard Brautigan—an homage to the spirit of 1970s California.
From a straight-photography study created with Angie in Big Sur, to quiet, reflective encounters scattered across the Californian landscape, the book forms a sentimental anthology of California through the eyes of Yasutomo Ebisu.
Yasutomo Ebisu
Photographer. Born in Nagasaki, Japan. Influenced by his grandfather and father, both of whom ran photography studios, Ebisu began taking photographs at an early age. After graduating from the Department of Photography at Nihon University College of Art, he established himself as an independent photographer.
He has worked widely on editorial and advertising photography for fashion magazines, while also producing portrait works created during his travels abroad. Ebisu has collaborated on numerous artists’ publications, including the book KAMO HEAD by Katsuya Kamo.
His own publications include BONES, featuring photographs of animal bones collected by editor Lloyd Kahn, and Midori no Ōkoku (The Kingdom of Green), a collaborative book with writer Rumiko Suzuki documenting gardens in the United Kingdom (Seigensha).
