2023年初夏、ミュンヘン州立版画素描館で開催された内藤礼の個展「breath」をまとめた、豪華で貴重なカタログです。
畠山直哉が撮り下ろした展覧会風景を中心に、開催までの1年間に描かれた48点の絵画《color beginning》全点、内藤礼が作品に寄せた言葉と同館ディレクター、ミヒャエル・へリング氏によるエッセイを掲載。同展に向けた制作の中、「地上への憧憬」は人間の本性であるとの気づきから、風景を描くことを作家が自らに許し、生まれた《color beginning》は、2024年、東京国立博物館と銀座メゾンエルメス フォーラムでの個展の構想に繋がることとなりました。
大判ならではの展示空間の臨場感、絵画を実物大に近づけることで作品細部まで体感できる本カタログは、重厚なスリーブケース、本体表紙ともに質感にこだわり抜いた、部数限定の貴重な一冊です。

This catalogue is a comprehensive and significant collection of works from Rei Naito’s solo exhibition “breath” which took place at Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München, Munich in early summer 2023.
It features exhibition photographs by Naoya Hatakeyama, all 48 “color beginning” paintings made in the year before the exhibition, words on the work by Rei Naito, as well as an introduction and an essay by Michael Hering, the museum’s director.
The series “color beginning” took shape when the artist came to understand that “longing for the earth” is an innate human sentiment. During the production process for the exhibition in Munich, she allowed herself to paint landscapes, which led to the conceptualization of her solo exhibitions at the Tokyo National Museum and the Ginza Maison Hermès Le Forum in 2024.
This rare, limited-edition catalogue, housed in a solid slipcase, is made of carefully selected materials — both the book cover and the slipcase have beautiful textures, and the details of the works are presented in a large format close to the original size.
